Haunting & Folklore

The 2024 issue of Common Thread aims to explore the blurred lines between myth and reality through folklore and legends to uncover the mysteries existing both within ourselves and the world around us. Examining haunting and folklore highlights aspects of our lives and environment that cannot be easily explained. This realization encourages us to approach the unknown with curiosity, rather than fear, as we acknowledge the complex and mysterious aspects of our being.

Mission Statement

Common Thread is the literary and arts magazine of Auburn University at Montgomery. Our mission is to showcase the diverse body of work created by the students and staff of our university. As a collaboration between the Department of English and Philosophy and the Department of Fine Arts, we illuminate the possibilities of narrative and artistic spaces to respect the common, everyday life and legacies of our unique placement in the South.

Our magazine foregrounds local creativity, highlighting our history, culture, and progression to a future grounded in resistance and change.
