Connection and Creation in a Digital Age

The 2025 issue of Common Thread explores the idea of technology, focusing on social media and AI. Developments in technology are rapid, and their implications are at once exciting and alarming, especially how we as people connect with each other and create art. Through the works compiled in this issue, we hope to capture a nuanced discussion regarding social media and AI, showing both their potential for furthering connection and creation as well as hindering them.

We want to see your creative work!

We will begin accepting submissions for our 2026 issue in Fall 2025.

Submission Types: We publish all art forms, including short stories, poetry, drama, art & photography, music, creative short films, graphic texts, and podcasts.

Format: Send your submission as an attachment in a standard text format such as .doc, .docx, or as plain text (.txt) or as a common image file type such as .png, .jpeg, or .bmp to commonthread@aum.edu. Also, please include in the subject line of the email the kind of submission followed by the title of the work (e.g. Subject: Poem – “My Poem’s Title”). There is no limit on the number of submissions per person. Submissions not accepted for the current edition are eligible for forwarding to the next edition of Common Thread.

Word Limit: Please limit writing submissions to 4000 words or less; however, if the editors determine that a longer work calls for a full treatment in Common Thread, a submission in excess of this limit may still be considered for print publication. Longer works will be published in full for the digital edition of the magazine.

Common Thread only accepts and publishes work from students and faculty associated with Auburn University at Montgomery.
